From Instagram Posts to Interior Design
When Anna started renovating her Lake Macquarie home, she thought it would be fun to show off her DIY creations on Instagram. Little did she realise how many people would want to follow along on her DIY journey – her feed now boasting more than 31,000 fans.
“I just started off by sharing little DIYs,” she remembers. “As we finished a particular room, I would share some imagery and, over time, it ended up gaining a lot of organic traction.”
While initially drawn to DIY and renovations, Anna soon gained a love for overall interior design which she now does professionally. Her on-the-job work also feeds back into her own DIY jobs at home: “My home is pretty coastal, so that’s what I'm drawn to. At the moment, I'm really into projects that use lots of colour but still retain that coastal feel of the home.
“Using easycraft panelling is a good way to introduce colour, and being able to use easyVJ in the Wet Area Interior boards gave us peace of mind knowing they would withstand frequent moisture and it wouldn’t impact their integrity.”
Making a Plain Powder Room Sing
Easycraft features heavily in her latest project: a complete makeover of her powder room. “The powder room is something that people often forget about,” Anna says. For my own home, it's a room that bothered me for so long because, truthfully, it just seemed so boring.
For her powder room renovation, Anna decided to install Wet Area Interior easyVJ60 panels, with their narrower 60mm centre adding texture while ensuring a subtle yet dramatic look. Most importantly for Anna, it gave the room more dimension so it would no longer look and feel flat. That decision also allowed her to do something exciting with colours: a two-tone wall. The top half is a breezy, light shade of white while the bottom half is a beautiful, soft coastal beige-green. “I even installed a new vanity with some timber on it, which adds more warmth to the space and has a bit of a pattern to spice things up.”
On why she decided to use easycraft's Wet Area Interior easyVJ60 panels specifically, Anna says the profile was perfect for the amount of room – or lack thereof – available to her. It was also a way to solve one of the home’s problem areas: cracked gyprock. “It was a good option for a small, narrow space. With the VJ60, I was able to get that textural and subtle pattern in the powder room, which heightened the overall look.
“Our house is also quite old. We had gyprock that had cracked over time and had these really distinct lines. So by putting the VJ60 directly over the top, we were able to get rid of that unsightliness straight away.”
Adding Coastal Charm in Other Areas of The Home
In addition to using easycraft VJ60 Wet Area Interior panels Anna has also used easyVJ 100 in other areas of her home that needed a little character and lift.
The entryway, master bedroom and rumpus room all have a touch of easycraft panels on the walls. This has made for a cohesive look when transitioning from one room to the next with easyVJ 100 panels.
Why Wet Areas Need an Appropriate Panel
Anna is a strong proponent for doing things right – especially when it involves renovating your own house. That’s why she spent time finding the right panel that would also stand up to moisture exposure in her powder room.
“Even though we are DIYers, we always make sure we aren’t putting the wrong substrate into the wrong rooms,” she says. “That’s why we went with the Wet Area Interior panels by easycraft. Beyond the look and durability, it's easy-to-install and we were able to do it ourselves.”
